Character Analysis

Born in 1953, Robert is the first son of Jack and Lynne Fairchild, inheriting quite a large fortune and empire that he would later share with his younger brother, Edward.

At school, Robert was a very good student, but known for being a raucous troublemaker, rarely seen out of the company of his best friend, Paul Hewitt. At the age of 10, he met Jennifer McGregor, whom he was immediately quite taken with, but who, delicately put, found him arrogant and unbearable.

After a while, Robert and Jennifer formed something of a fragile friendship (which was imposed, at first, as their best friends, Ivy and Paul, were dating). Before too long, Robert and Jennifer became a couple themselves, quickly becoming deeply involved.

In April of 1971, after finishing school, Robert and Jenny were married. They were eighteen. Nine months later, they had their first children, twins, Oliver and Beth.

Inheriting his dad's buisness, Robert became very good at balancing work and the time he spent with his children, who just kept multiplying. After Oliver and Beth, came Nani in 1974, Lily in '75, Wendy in '76, Ben in '77, Melanie in 1980, and Garen in 1981.

Robert is a loving, sometimes overindulgent father, taking pride in any of his children's accomplishments, in particular, those of his daughter, Melanie.

While a patient and understanding dad, he has little tolerance for Ben's mistreatment of his siblings and Melanie's friends. As a result, he and Ben have had more than a few fights and their relationship remains very strained.

When it comes to his friends, Robert is extremely loyal and generous. After the deaths of their friends, Scott and Nicole Hart, he and Jenny put up a valiant custody battle against Steven and Linda Logan for their godson, Alan. When finally gaining custody (eight years later), Robert and Jenny took Alan in, loving him as good as a son, giving him a home and even helping to pay for his education at university.

Robert is a brilliant business man, a loving and faithful husband, a doting father, and an all around kind and charitable man.
