Character Analysis

Edward is Robert's younger brother, the second and youngest of Jack and Lynne Fairchild's children.

When he was younger, he emulated his brother Robert, wanting to tag along with him and his best mate, Paul. In time, however, his attention turned more exclusively towards Elizabeth McGregor, the younger sister of his brother's girlfriend, Jenny.

In 1976, he and Elizabeth were married, having their first child together, Rufus, in 1980. A daughter, Rebecca, followed in 1984.

Like his wife, Edward is a caring and sympathetic parent. While intially disappointed by his son's outing, he was quickly able to get over it and accept Rufus' boyfriend, Nik, as part of the family. His daughter, Rebecca, suffers from a mental ailment that requires special attention, which Eddie readily gives.

His family is very well-to-do (having split the Fairchild fortune with his brother, Robert). Eddie acts as manager to the Fairchilds' theatre, whil his brother operates the textiles manufacture and wineries.
